    • Install a firewall.
    • - Disable file sharing.
    • - Install antivirus software.
    • - Modify your HOSTS file. Setting up your HOSTS file prevents spyware and any kind of ’Äúmalware’Äù from communicating outside your computer.
    • - Keep your system updated.
    • - Stop spyware before it takes root on your PC.
    • - delete temporary files.

most viruses come from pen dives and portable hard drive through usb , and mostly all virus are work with auto run option .
so dont keep autorun setting ,keep visible all hidden file that enable"show hidden file "option .
and dont double click on such external drive directly go through address bar to open it ,then in case if there is any virus you can it in hidden pattern file mostly in application format, or autorun file.

Since you use internet there are chances that your PC might get attacked from viruses.
    You can follow the steps:
    • Get a good Anti-virus/spyware/malware. McCafee is good but will cost you.
    • Instead go for AVG its free and easy to use. You can easily update it, its update file is no more than 700kb to 1 MB.
    • Schedule an system scan in your PC. This will make sure that the system is under check.
    • Whenever you open a e-mail(Outlook) or download anything on net make sure you scan it for viruses.
    • Whenever you use USB or flash memory make sure you scan the equipment before opening it with any antivirus.... very important.
    • After scanning if the you find virus and it has affected any .dll file or any important file whose deletion can hamper you application programming then Quarantine that file.... by doing this you wont delete that file but that also wont execute or used.
