Increase the capacity of memory to 2 GB (if you can) to operate so nice with Windows XP SP3 and is a legal minimum for Vista.
Your PC will run little bit faster if you have only 1GB of memory or more (not less attention!) You can then remove the files exchanges. Hard drive is much slower than the memory, the information arrives more slowly therefore slower PC.
Protection software installed Norton are in addition to Windows, they are large consumers of resources and memory, 512 MB of RAM are just sufficient to operate the system, the rest needs memory resources resulting in frequent access the Windows swap file on the disc drive.
You will also lighten your system software and network services residents in the Start your machine and consuming resources to retain only those necessary.
A small defragmentation will also be a little more significant to improve the overall functioning of the system.
You also may be contaminated with spyware or trojans that take advantage of your machine to spread and slow down your Internet connection and your machine, proceed to clean comply with the proper tools.
It is indeed possible, but it is more efficient to store it and to adjust to the same capacity than the memory available if the installed RAM is greater than or equal to 1 GB, twice if lower . The ideal is to move the swap file on the second hard disk if it has 2 hard drives (and not a second partition on a disk that is useless). This forcing Windows to use the file swapping in an optimal manner.
The fact that the file exchange completely may cause blockages of the system in case of strong demand for memory which can be inconvenient and cause data loss.
