    Improper behaviour of Task Manager

I have Windows XP installed on my computer,I open Task Manager while running as an administrator. I click on the button to show all users and get the popup asking to verify which I do. I then select an item running under User Name SYSTEM,
right click and select Open File Location and nothing happens. I then select the same item, right
click and select Properties and nothing happens.

The menu items are not grayed out -- why don't they work?

Your task manager is running in 'Kiosk' mode. Bring it up (either by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del or Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and double click on the grey border. This should restore it to normal mode.

Start the computer in safe mode and see if you can use it. To start the computer in safe mode tap on the F8 key as it is coming up. This will tell you if it is something serious with the computer. If it starts and you get the desktop then it is not that serious.
