Refresh n Remove Dead Wireless networks

Recently, when I was traveling, I try to bring up a list of available wireless networks and the computer shows networks that are not there any more, and shows them with 4 or 5 bars. The only thing new is that I set up a wireless home netwokl with my laptop and desk top computers so I can share files. I know these networks that my computer is showing are not there. Anyone know how to fix this?

Open the Wireless Control menu and Remove all the "Dead" Networks from the preferred list.

I installed a new network, with password, that now does not work (or I got the name of the network wrong) How do I get to start fresh again. What sort of network, among the options provided (WRC_Network coconet Other Airport Network) would be the best to connect with TimeMachine if I am able to get a fresh start? I'm the network administrator and I've botched it, run into a dead end.

The menubar list shows every network that's broadcasting within range of your computer, whether you want to connect to it or not. That's by design, as it helps travellers, coffee shop users, etc.

Thanks. That did work. But why did I have to do this, all of a sudden Previously, only real networks that I could connect to would show up. In fact there are probably a hundred of these in the preferred network box (ones that I've connected to in my travels around the country). Why don't they show up when I do a refresh?
