New Laptop Connection - Linksys query

I currently have a Linksys connected to my desktop downstairs and a wireless laptop upstairs. All works fine. I'm thinking of getting an additional laptop. The security I set up will not allow another laptop to access the internet.Unfortunately, I lost my password to access the Linksys to add the laptop. Is my only option left is pressing the reset button? (My concern is that it's been so long and I've totally forgotten how to Setup security and other measures from scratch).

It's difficult to advise you without knowing what security you set up or what you mean by "access the Linksys." Do you mean the password to access the router's configuration utility ordo you mean your wireless encryption password? Unless you set up MAC or IP address filters, it's not usually necessary to access the router in order to connect another wireless client. All you need to know is the encryption password. On the other hand, if you have forgotten your encryption password but did not password protect the router itself, it's an easy matter to find out what the password is.

Linksys is usually pretty good about posting the manuals to their products on the web. Connect to http://www.linksys.com then click on the "downloads" link at the very top of the screen and go from there. With most Linksys routers, pressing and holding the reset button for about 10 seconds will reset all router settings to factory default -- including the password. Consulting the manual will give you the details you need to reconfigure the security of your router
