    when i do the \\ 192.168.2.2 from the desktop i see all the files im sharing on the desktop if i use the ip addy for the laptop i see the files the laptop is sharing now the laptop when i do the \\ ip for the laptop i can see the files the laptop is sharing but if i use the ip for the desktop i get .. enter user name and password when i enter the user name password i get the error msg. cannot access check spelling of the name ......now do i need to use the user name, password for the network or should i use the user name , password for the user since i have more than one user name for the desktop ....

    Hi,

    You will have to use the username as 192.168.2.2\Administrator and then the password. "Administrator" indicates the username that have Admin priviledge on the desktop.

    i still get the error msg and i guess i have only the one log in and it is Administrator

    Sorry for the Delay..got caught in a project.
    Anyways, i would have loved to get a network monitor capture that will show me the traffic when you are trying to access the desktop which would have given us a little indication as to what is causing it.

    However at this point of time try the following:

    Create an account on both the laptop and desktop with the same name and password . Assign the account as a Administrator and then try to access the desktop from the laptop. Use the credentials that you have created when it asks for username and password.
