    Lost file permissions

We have a couple of files on a network shared folder which have lost file permissions and we can no longer get access to these folders.
The Security tab shows that no users have access permissions not even the domain administrator.
Is there any way I can restore access rights to this file for the domain administrator account?

What error message do you get when trying to take ownership?

Which operating system are you using? Did you tried booting in the safe mode and changing the rights of the folder?

The error just reads - Cannot change ownership, access is denied

Check the permissions for the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT itself (Regedit > right click HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > select Permissions). For Administrators, "Allow" should be checked under "Full Control" and "Read".

First check, the file you wanted to take from a system has followed all the sharing possibilities,Is he is available on the Network?,If it is not available, please restart that computer and then check what error message it gives.

    Re: Lost file permissions

The file is a .JPG and is available over the network and situated on the server hard drive, but the file has no permissions attached to it, just gives the access denied error even when trying to access the file from the server itself.
all the relevant group accounts are there its just that all of them show they have no security access rights even the server administrator account.
Which means I can't do anything with the file. I can't even delete it from the hard drive.

Only folders can have share and security permissions not files.
if it is problem with a file make sure taht files are not encrypted
