&^#&^%$ AntiSpywareXP 2009
Ok, so this is a post with two parts, but first, a little background...
I have a Hell^WDell laptop that's about 4 years old, that's been infectecd with the rogue antispyware prog AntiSpywareXP 2009. I managed to (somehow) get it off for a grand total of about 36 hours, after which, it came back, and so far, none of my previous efforts have worked in getting it off completely. As it stands right now, the only files I can find associated with it is one called brastk. but every time I remove the file from under C:\WINDOWS, adn C:\WINDOWS\system32, it comes back after a reboot... I thought it might have been a TSR-type file that loads itself at startup, adn if you delete teh source, it just replicates from teh memory... but I have actually taken the physical memory chips out of their slots, re-inserted them, adn booted the system, only to have the file come back. So my first question is, what else do I need to look for that s putting this file abck on my system?
Secondly, thanks to this &^%^*%$ program, the lapdog will only boot to safe mode. I have tried to install LavaSoft's Ad-Aware program, but every time it tries to install, it pops up a dialog box that says "your system Administrator has put security policies in place that prevent this install from running". I kinda think that's just teh 2009 catching teh install and stopping it, but I'm not sure. typically, software should be ablet o be installed in safe mode, right? if so, is there really a security policy I can find and edit to possibly allow the install to work? This is XP Pro SP2, on an Inspirion 8500 w/ 512Mb RAM, and a P4m 2GHz CPU.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tanks much...
**Edit**
to whoever has the proper powers, could this be moved into teh computer help area for antispyware? I didn't see it until after I posted this here... My apologies.
