How can I limit my servers internet bandwidth

I am using an internet connection coming from my friend. I am sharing the internet connection provided by some service provider...

I am dependent on my server for my internet speed. But mostly he keeps his downloads active which reduces my speed in turn...

How can I come out of this problem so that I get a good speed by stopping/pausing his downloads by the time I use net.

Can I get something so that I can govern y internet usage when required from a client.....

    Does anybody has any idea...

Any way..... server is my boss... but can I have some solution...

    Hi
Controlling Bandwidth on a Network is the function of managed hardware, or and Server, Windows XP being a Client OS can not adequately do so. If you were more specific in describing you over all goal; might be that some one can come with an idea.

Limit specific apps or as a "Global" setting ? - If Global you can modify some of the TPC/IP settings which in affect lowers the available bandwidth.
Not sure your question is specific enough on what you're trying to achieve.

Re: How can I limit my servers internet bandwidth

I am a client sharing a common internet connection.

My server is loaded with some downloads (normally torrents or some other downloads) generated by server PC user. When it starts, it consumes all the bandwidth... and I do get very little bandwidth for my usage and downloads.

Whether any solution will be available somewhere so that I can see that my server can be made free when I need (may be for surfing or bit of downloads).

May be a software package which can limit or inform server indicating bandwidth can be divided now as client also need some data to be downloaded.

This will speed up my internet usage... without notice of my server PC .

Thank you all for your valuable responses .

Try using this 3rd party applications:

    http://www.bsplitter.com/

    http://www.digirain.com/tquota/

You can also try google, there are many free and cheap software that control your LAN through IP and mac address.
