Problem using SSH to redirect HTTP connections

I am using Putty in order to use ssh to redirect my HTTP connections.

I created a tunnel using my local port 8080 and redirected it on my server on port 80. The connection to the ssh server launched successfully and remains in background. In Firefox, I specified the proxy local host as port 8080.

Now when I try to surf I get the message as: Connection interrupted.

And the connection with the server gets reset as soon as the page loads.

Please help me in this matter.

You made a mistake while specifying the proxy settings. When you use port 80 locally, in Firefox, you need to specify the proxy as 127.0.0.1:80 and not 8080.

And by the way I will recommend you to use different port and not port no. 80.

Ok I made the mistake by reversing the two.

Why don't you try something like http://localhost:8080/? It should work.

In Putty, indicate Source Port: 8080 and then add Dynamic tick. It should be enough to run a connection and configure the proxy localhost port 8080 in SOCKS proxy in Firefox.

    Solution

I was having the same problem as you(blank page) and finally found what I had been doing wrong. Only enter in the proxy information in SOCKS field, leave the others blank.

Sorry about that, I had posted a link to the solution but it was removed :/

If you're using Firefox, go under manual proxy settings and put your IP address under SOCKS and the port number you're using. This is the only field that you need to fill out, leave the rest blank.
