what Firewall software does? why Firewall Security?

Hi Guys,
I heard lot of about Firewall that it protect PC from the external malfunctions, virus attacks, please let me know more about Firewalls. How do i know that, my system is Firewall protected.

Hi Michael25,

A firewall is simply a program or hardware device that filters the information coming through the Internet connection into your private network or computer system. If an incoming packet of information is flagged by the filters, it is not allowed through.

At the company wide nature if a firewall in place, the landscape is much different. A company will place a firewall at every connection to the Internet.The firewall can implement security rules as well as Firewalls use one or more of three methods to control traffic flowing in and out of the network
1)Packet filtering 2)Proxy service 3)Stateful inspection

why Firewall security:
There are many creative ways that unscrupulous people use to access or abuse unprotected computers some are as follows:
1)Remote logins 2)Application backdoors 3)OS system bugs
4)E-mail bombs
which may creates a threat to the systems.

To know whether your system is firewall protected check the Control panel ->Windows Security Center there u could see Firewall options.
