    STDRET.MSI Missing

I have got Office XP which is asking for STDRET.MSI is missing. The powerpoint would not run but the detect and repair has overcome this. But, Excel still requires STDRET.MSI to be loaded again. I am not able to use the CD as the drive has become unserviceable. It is a very old laptop, so dont want to purchase a new drive. When using another PC, I have attempted to copy all files from the CD to a USB memory stick, but the laptop cannot use this file? Can anyone please help? Thanks.

    Re: STDRET.MSI Missing

You need to make sure that the CD title is the same as the title for MS office in add and remove programs in the Control Panel. Normally, the StdRet.msi will be on the Office CD for the Standard edition. You can also check in Windows Explorer or Windows Search that you have 'hidden and system' files set to show.
