Microsoft Excel Save button is not working

I have a pc with Office XP installed. Save as button is greyed out in new documents. Have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Still greyed out. I do not understand the reason behind the same. Is this because of a virus in my system. The same works on my friends system. Any ideas.

Check the below link for more information. There are some GroupWise settings or configuration which is needed to be performed at the time of setup. I am not able understand the solution in this, but hope after reading you can figure out something.

Runs a Windows update and then check back. The buttons are usually enabled by default. Try to remove the tool completely in Safe mode and then run a fresh setup. Run Windows update. If you think there is a virus, scan your system with good antivirus like Norton.
