Not able to open .xls file might be read-only or encrypted

In my windows 2000 domain, in one of my member server I have found that the users cannot open excel document and the permissions have changed and also the properties of the document cannot display the owner in the security. Can anyone please help.

Follow the below method:

In Excel, click on the Office Button
Click the Excel Options button
Click Advanced Options
In the general category, remove the check "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange DDE"

You can only encrypt a file in Excel by providing the password to the file. You only need the password for the Excel file and it will be decrypted. This feature is only supported by Microsoft Excel and not just by OpenOffice. If you want to encrypt the files necessarily, you could use other methods.
