Office 2003 won't open via DC but will via File, open

We have a computer that will not allow you to open a MS Office 2003 Word file by double clicking on it and will only open via File > Open.

This is a windows XP machine with all of the most recent office 2003 updates / SP's applied.

I have tried to do the following:

    renaming the normal.dot file - Didn't work
    repairing office - Didn't work
verifying it's not open in another location

Logging in with another profile and attempting the same action - Works just fine which leads me to think that it's possibly a profile issue

Do you all think it could be a profile issue or something else related to MS office. (All other files open just fine via the double click)

It looks like the file execution is blocked on the host systems which is done via gpo. You can check this in active directory. Right click on the user and then click on properties. Go in group policy and check current file permission status. This is usually not a profile issue, but the permission restriction problem given to the users. You can manage this via group policy settings.
