Is Xeon E5-2620 processor better than i7 3770k?

I am willing to buy a new processor for myself and I was searching on internet for some good processors that are available. While searching, I came across Xeon E5-2620 and Intel i7 3770k. I read their specifications, their features and other such things. But I am not satisfied by the information that was provided in these articles. I want to know more about them before I purchase them. If someone is actually using any of these processors or have experience of using them, can they tell me which one I should go for?

According to me Intel i7 3770k is much better than Xeon E5-2620. Intel i7 3770k comes with 6 cores which are much better than Xeon E5-2620 and also it has good amount of cache in it. I think this will be useful for better operation and will enable faster processing. Also with 6 cores in the processor, the processes which need multi-processing or multi-threading will work more efficiently and will be also faster. I think this processor will help you in many activities including gaming, work or other heavy resource consuming activity.

I too think that you should buy Intel i7 3770k instead of Xeon E5-2620. The problem I think with E5-2620 is that it doesn’t work well with many motherboards available. The processors which can work with E5-2620 properly are either very expensive or do not work with large range of peripherals. To use E5-2620, you will need a motherboard which will use RAM which works only in Quad channel. One thing that I would like to say about E5-2620 is that it has lower clock speed as compared to that of Intel i7 3770k. I think that 3770k will benefit from higher clock speed when it comes to maintaining the speed of processes in the computer.

Talking about the clocks and their speed in Xeon E5-2620 and Intel i7 3770k, I think they are almost in proper ratio. Xeon E5-2620 has more number of clocks but they are less powerful than that in Intel i7 3770k. As compared to it, i7 3770k has less number of clocks in it, but all these clocks are of higher quality and more performance can be achieved than that is currently present in E5-2620. But if you sum them up, they all are same in both the processors.

If you are an overclocker and prefer to use processor in overclocked mode, then I suggest that you should get Intel i7 3770k instead of Xeon E5-2620. The reason is that when you overclock Xeon E5-2620, it doesn’t make much difference. But if you overclock Intel i7 3770k, the performance is boosted very well. You can actually experience the difference in performance which is actually great. If you compare the benchmarks of the overclocked E5-2620 and i7 3770k, then 3770k easily beats E5-2620. Now it’s up to your requirement and usage which processor you choose.

If you want to set your computer to have advanced graphics by use of graphic cards than Xeon E5-2620 is much better for you. As Munishi3 has mentioned that Xeon E5-2620 works properly only with some specific motherboards, those motherboards which are properly compatible with Xeon E5-2620 have more PCIe lanes on it which will allow you to attach more than two graphic cards on it. You can connect these graphic cards in SLI to get much better output while using any application or software that needs support of graphic processors. I think this is very helpful if you are a hardcore gamer or a professional in visual arts. But if you need to have a normal graphical output using a single graphic card, then you can just use Intel i7 3770k along with one or maybe two graphic cards together.

Re: Is Xeon E5-2620 processor better than i7 3770k?

If you take a look at the prices of these processors, then Xeon E5-2620 is much expensive than Intel i7 3770k. I think that if price is ignored, then even the overall performance and the features of Xeon E5-2620 are much weaker and of lower quality than Intel i7 3770k. I think this factor makes the E5-2620 look expensive than i7 3770k. It’s like I am paying more to get less in case of E5-2620, while in case of i7 3770k, I am paying for what I am getting. So it’s your choice which processor you want to buy.
