PCI-Express Gen 3 support on MSI 970A-G46 motherboard

Recently I have bought the MSI 970A-G46 motherboard. It was a box piece and there was a sticker over the box saying that it supports PCIe Gen 3 and you can find a switch on the board. But here I couldn’t able to find out this switch. Where is it? There is nothing on the website and also on the manual. Is my motherboard fake?

Are you sure that you are using the right motherboard?

Did you check the motherboard properly?

I don’t think that MSI 970A-G46 motherboard. I have also gone through the reviewing of product information and I didn’t get anywhere mention of it supporting PCI-E 3.0. I assume that the sticker has gotten on packaging must be some kind of a mistake.

I have also seen the product information on Official website and I got the following Slots:
    • 2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots
    • 2 PCI Express 2.0 x1 slots
    • 2 PCI slots, support 3.3V/ 5V PCI bus Interface.

There is nothing about PCI-E 3.0. You might need to contact the MSI technical and ask them why it appears.

As far as I know that current AMD CPU's do not need PCIe Gen3 support. It is all about the motherboard and its chipset which should support. The processor has nothing to do here. It seems to me that you have got the false information otherwise the false package. One thing sure that you motherboard will never support PCIe Gen3. This is not an issue because you won’t need PCIe Gen 3 for next few years. I don’t care if PCIe Gen3 coming in next 10 years.

I knew that MSI had declared that it would be the first to have PCI 3.0integrated into their motherboard, Gigabyte subsequently refuted this argument and they also declared that their motherboard was "3.0 Ready".

Motherboards that only have a single slot graphics. Gigabyte considers the PCI Express Gen 3, by the fact that the PCI Express lanes are directly connected to the processor without using switches.

Motherboards equipped with two graphics ports and switches compatible Gen 3, in which case future PCI Express graphics cards can operate in 3.0 x16 3.0 on a slot, or 3.0 8x if both slots are used.

The third case is that much of the models in the Gigabyte cards that have two graphics slots. In this case, the compatibility Gen 3 is done only on the first slot, and only 8x mode. The other 8 lines from the processor by the mandatory switch from 2.0, they are disabled, and a feature that Gigabyte claims as exclusive and probably implemented in its BIOS.

MSI is the leading PCI Express Gen3. MSI was the first to launch a Z68 motherboard Gen3, as the Z68A-GD65 and the new G3 series X79, X79A-GD65 as 8D, offering a full range in Gen3. MSI has tested and validated these Gen3 motherboards with PCI Express 3.0 graphics cards for example. Even PCI Express Gen2, Gen3 benefit of, more performance for your old cards!

In the absence of compatible graphics cards PCI Express 3.0, it is difficult to judge whether these resistors and capacitors are really essential to the operation mode 3.0, but we could verify the PCI Express 3.0 specification at least one of two changes advertised as required by MSI, the level of power capacitors, is indeed true
