Is 8 GB DDR2 RAM is better than 4 GB DDR3 RAM for gaming

I need some help to go with new ram upgrade. I am having a Windows 7 64bit system. I have two choices here. I can buy a single stick of 4GB ram or I can go with 8GB. But I am not able to determine whether my system is going to support the same or not. I am willing to go for 8GB ram. I already have a 2GB stick in my pc. And I had seen that a 64bit system is capable of supporting upto 16GB easily.

To find that you have to find the specification of your motherboard. Only on that basis you will be able to get the answer. If your board supports upto 16GB of ram then you can add it. But there is one more thing you have to check. You must buy ram with identical configuration. If you go with different one then things will not work well. Like the ram mhz. If your existing ram is around 800Mhz and you bought a higher one your system will crash.

That is correct. If you go with wrong ram compatibility then your system will crash. You have to check that first. You can use a software to find complete information on your system hardware. You can try using CPU-Z. This tool will give you detailed information on everything inside your system. Like the total ram, its mhz and motherboard model. Through which you can collect more information.
