    Windows 2008 R2 X64 shows 3.99GB RAM instead of 8GB on Dell Poweredge R415

I had an two-socket 1U Dell PowerEdge R415 server with 8GB of Ram on this system. I use an Windows 2008 R2 X64 OS on this system. The os works well but now I realize most crucial problem on this rack server. When I look the RAM size on it then it shows only 3.99GB RAM on this system which is in actual case 8GB. I don’t know why this happen on this windows 2008 system. Any help to solve this problem and accessing fully memory of RAM will be appreciating.

If you don’t use BIOS to view this system specification, then you need to perform this task. BIOS will be providing correct specification of this system.

The basic things behind that is because of the BIOS of the system can’t being able to correctly work to detect this RAM size. In that case, you need to just perform a BIOS reset task on this system. In that process, just perform an action that work to first show the correct specification of this system. The BIOS reset task of this system will be performed with the help of the manual of this system. Try this and locate the actual performance after that task. I hope it reset the BIOS setting and system BIOS shows an perfect 8GB of the Ram. The other thing in this is to be the Standard does have a max of 32GB and hence you need to make sure BIOS to make sure that memory "mirroring" is not on. This will be works and it shows the actual size of the RAM. Also it helps to get access the 32GB of RAM size.

In this rack server there is an Up to 64GB (8 DIMM slots) of the RAM present. You need to first check that this RAM is being properly inserted to this system or not. It could be possible that the system has to be indicating the wrong RAM because of it wouldn’t properly connect to the system. Hence you need to find then fix this kind RAM connectivity problem. Try this and locate the actual ram size of this system.

DDR2 RAM should always be installed in matched pairs. If your systems RAM can’t able connect in that manner, then you need to perform this task. It really necessary and in the result it can be work to use correctly connected RAM of this system. I also faced the same kind of problem and in that I use the reinstallation task which is helps to perform this kind of task.
