    Pre-purchase questions on MSI 890FXA-GD70

I'm looking to rebuild my computer and I'm looking to find a new MB that will meet my wants. I am using power supply of Silverstone 1500w with xfx radeon HD 4870 X2 video card. Even I am using Amd phenom II x6 1090T six-core CPU. I include 2 x 4 GB kingston DDR3 1333 Dual channel memory for 16Gb total with the 160 GB Ultra ATA100 HDD. I want to change the ATA hard disk to a new OCZ RevoDrive OCZSSDPX-1RVDX0160 X2 PCI-E 160 PCI-Express x4 internal MLC Solid State Drive (SSD). Would you be able to run both video? X16 cards (Crossfire) and this SSD to x4 and have full power and speed of the 3 components? If that fails, may I have another idea?

Dual boot should not be a difficult, but according to the instruction booklet, with a video card in slot 1 and the other in slot 5, slot 4 must be a x4 bus, but it is not and PC start. I put in 3 or 6 and the bus speed for the video card is reduced to x8. I hope a BIOS update. I try to find about this on internet but not able to find the proper information about this. If anyone find proper solution n it then share your knowledge with us thank you.

I observe that they were only able to get the cards to work at 8x with the SSD in the slot 3 or 6. I'm looking at the pictures and it seems the SSD will not fit between the video card and my video crossfire. Link cable is short. I guess the cables are all standard lengths? When I get home tomorrow I'll take a look at my old setup. (It has been down for a year.) My video cards occupy two slots each in the back of the box, so in my mind I do not remember any space between them.

I am a pleased proprietor of MSI 890FXA-GD70 and I think it has a new BIOS that allows RevoDrives v1.8 be supported on the system. I have an ASUS Xen in my PCIe slot 4 and everything is working fine. I would recommend trying to update the BIOS when you receive your card. You probably already have the update when you open it. The overview will give you the BIOS version on it. It Located on top of the white sticker. I think it will help you to understand your problem.

When I first got the board has an earlier (1.7) BIOS. Recognized the load Windows revodrive and seemed to succeed, but it would BSOD. After research I discovered the new BIOS and it solved the BSOD problem. When I got the video card 2 and all set to which they belong according to the manual, the motherboard is not completed then revodrive in slot 4. Sometimes I like to have 1 / 2 of the revodrive screen, sometimes the BIOS. I Could CTRL-ALT-DEL and it would reset the motherboard, but not after finished. I am presently working through MSI to determine the problem.

I'm looking to rebuild my computer and I'm looking to find a new MB that will meet my wants.

    I have
    1- Silverstone 1500w Powersupply
    2- xfx radeon HD 4870 X2 video cards (crossfireX) @ PCI E 2.0 x16
    1- Amd phenom II x6 1090T six-core cpu
    2- (2x4Gb) kingston DDR3 1333 Dual channel memory for 16Gb total
    1- LG Blu-Ray Burner
    4- 1Tb WD Caviar Black HDDs SATA3.0Gb/s
    1- 160Gb Ultra ATA100 HDD
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

I am wanting to switch the ATA HDD to a newer OCZ RevoDrive X2 OCZSSDPX-1RVDX0160 PCI-E 160GB PCI-Express x4 MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

would I be able to run both Vid. Cards at x16 (Crossfire) and this SSD at x4 and have max power/speed from all 3 components?

If this doesn't work could you give me some other ideas?

    hi silvanacolo,

Normally, Six cores is only useful for video editing. An i7-950 is only $200 at Micro Center. Or save yourself some cash and get a Phenom II x4 955BE at Newegg or a Phenom II with a Micro Center deal (I'd get the x6 w/ mobo discounts there). Is it a gaming build? What are you planning on doing with it?
