Do I need a cooler in i7-2600K SB

I am having a new i7-2600K based system with ASUS p8p67 PROV3 MB. Now I want to over clock the sandy bridge to up to 4.2 - 4.5 GHz. So I feel that it will be possible at around 1.4 V.I want to know that would I need an after marked cooler or not. If anyone has some such thing then I would like to know their feedbacks. Remember that this system is not a game system but it’s a photo and video editing workstation. I have an nVidia 560 Ti in it as well. So is it necessary it have a cooler. Please if anyone knows then do get back to me.

I think that even though it’s a photo and video editing workstation I would suggest you to have a cooler in it. For that what I would suggest is that you should go for master Hyper 212+.You can get it for reasonable price. But if you want something that performs better then go for the Cogage TRUE Spirit w/the 1155.But it would be fairly expensive. Also there are some other which are more expensive that this and they are the Venomous or the Noctua. But I would suggest you to go for the master Hyper 212+.

According to me you can just go on a stock cooler. But I would suggest you that it would be nice just to keep it a bit cooler. Also I would like to tell you that you may not need 1.4V to hit 4.5 GHz. I hit 4.5 with 1.31V and idle at around 1.28. If you are thinking of getting a new cooler then you should go for the Zelman CNPS9500A LED and I am sure that you can let us know how that cooler works with an LGA1155 motherboard.

I agree with the previous solution. I think that you should go with the Hyper 212+ and use some other amount to get a couple of descent fans for pull and push. Even I was using a Hyper 212+ with Gentle Typhoon having 1850 RPM's in both push and pull on my 2600k.This was there before I got my new water loop setup and when I was doing a 4.7ghz at 1.38v and amazingly the temperature stayed below 72C. So I feel that you should not go for a expensive coolers and rather go for some cheap coolers.

Thank you all for your solutions. Looking at the solutions I feel that I should certainly go for a cooler in my i7-2600K SB. And as you have suggested I think that I should go for some cheap cooler. I think that I should go for the Hyper 212+ or the Venomous. But whatever it may be I just need to get a new cooler even though it’s a photo and video editing workstation. I would like to once again thank you and appreciate for providing me with the solutions .It has really made my mind clear on this issue.
