I think if you do this it will "fry" your Core 2 Duo. Nevertheless, the GX620 DOES favor the 9xx series of Pentium D processors. Just make certain you have the newest BIOS. I at present have a Pentium D 940 processor (SL95W) working W7 Professional (64-bit) on my Optiplex GX620. And, it works W7 Pro (64-bit) VERY deferentially, taking into account that the Pentium D is "old" machinery.

Your least amount W7 WEI score is 5.0 (the processor, of course). You can increase performance a bit by making the use of the Pentium D 950 processor (I suggest the SL95V, for saving and cooler temperatures...). Anyhow, if you go this way, you may wish to consider a beefed-up power supply, and a additional fan(s) blowing on your W7 companionable video card. Also, think about getting a additional case exhaust fan (at least 80mm) to assist get rid of the heat. Even the suggested 95 watt editions of the Pentium D can get heated

The Socket 775 varies from all previous x86 sockets in the logic that it does not contain pin holes. In its place, the socket has 775 gold-plated associates approved as grid 33 x 30 associates with 15 x 14 segment de-populated in the middle, with one corner associate and 4 contacts on both sides on the socket detached. After the processor is located into the socket it has to be protected by pushing down socket's load lever. The LGA775 socket is certain to final at least 20 insert cycles.
