Re: Specification of Intel Core i3 540

The core i3 540 is a dual core processor with the advanced feature of the multi threading facility. This type of CPU comes with the integrated GPU. The core i3 is launched with the 530 and the 540 series respectively with a noticeable difference in the clock speed 2.93GHz & 3.06GHz respectively. The main disadvantage of the Intel Core i3 540 is that it is missing the turbo boost technology. The speed cannot increase beyond 3.06GHz. so if you are looking for a great performance in terms of speed then switch on to i7.

Hey you have mentioned about the turbo boost. It means that we cant increase the speed beyond 3.2 GHz. Is it true? What if i am thinking of overclocking then. If turbo boost is not there then cant we overclock the processor. If yes then suggest me something. Anyone who have trid the overclocking process with the Intel Core i3 540 may please let me know. Even i was thinking about upgrading the system with Intel Core i3 540 but looking at this speed i will have to think twice.

Yes you can definitely try with the overclocking. Even i have tried with the same. I overclocked the Core i3 540 and it reached 4GHz with 2DDR3 RAM, also i had disabled the 2 cores from the bios settings and raised the vcore of the CPU. I had disabled 2 cores to match the core and threads of the core i3 540. The best part of the processor was that it passed the various benchmarks test showing a good example of stability, the processor provides. However you have to ensure the cooling of the system should be proper. In this way you can successfully overclock your Core i3 540.
