i955x main board support Core 2 Duo?

My uncle gift me an old computer with an Intel i955x main board. This i955x mother board supports LGA 775. There is a Pentium 4 (P4) processor on it. I want to upgrade my computer with Dual-Core processor. Will Intel i955x main board support those types of processors ? If i want to upgrade my PC what i have to do?

Now you have computer with an Intel i955x main board. And you mentioned that there is LGA 775 socket for processor. I know LGA 775 socket support Dual-Core processor but it not mean your system compatible with 775 processors. Just check your Intel i955x main board support Dual-Core processor or not. Your Intel i955x main board support P4, Pentium D, Pentium XE, etc.

You have Intel i955x main board with P4 processor. Why you want to upgrade with Dual-Core processor? P4 processor also give a good performance. Don' waste your money to upgrade your old computer. If you upgrade processor only it not sufficient to you you have to upgrade your ram, hard disk and other peripherals so you will get good performance.

I don't think your old computer will support to Dual-Core processor. There is Intel i955x main board with LGA 775 socket that not mean it support for Dual-Core processor. The important factor is your Intel i955x main board support Dual-Core processor it or not. So don't buy new processor. If your friend have a Dual-Core processor so first check it.

The motherboard you have may not be designed or made to support Core 2 Duo processors. It just because of the design limitations. Socket of board not define compatibility of motherboard. If you upgrade your computer with Core 2 Duo processors it will not work properly or will not support.Using unsupported processors may result incorrect operations and damage the board or processor. It also reduce the product life.
