2GB of usable ram upgrade on the LE1600

    Hi all,
I was having problem with my 1 GB RAM which was in two parts 512MB and 512MB. But my system was very slow and I don’t like to use slow system. It seems that I need 2 GB RAM and therefore I bought one more 1 GB RAM and inserted it in the slot. But the problem is that it is not showing me 2 BG of RAM. I reinserted it many times but it does not work for me.

Can you tell me what is the problem and how can I solve it?

You should buy ONE 2gb memory ddr2-533 or ddr2-667 so-dimm and plug it in the back. It will definitely detect the RAM and show you 2 GB of RAM Windows Vista and Windows XP both. It seems that your 512 MB memory inside may get disabled and thats why your system is not able to count the total RAM. Just try it and I am sure that your issue will be solved.

There are a couple of things that you should take care of while you are installing the RAM.
    1. You should not do it on mat rug because it may make some static electricity which can also short out your RAM.
    2. First touch some metal before you touch the RAM.
    3. Don’t force your RAM to insert in the slot. Insert it if goes smoothly and fit properly. Pushing too tough down on the ram can bend the mother board and can short the whole computer.

For those who are trying to increase the RAM on the LE1600s,you should note that It will only recognize a maximum of 1.5 gigs of RAM. You will see 2 gig of memory physically installed when you go to "My Computer" and click on hardware after installing 2 gig module. The main reason is that your current BIOS is not able to use more than the maximum of 1.5 gigs. I think it will give you clear idea that why is system not able to detect the whole RAM.

The above post is correct and you can click the following to prove it.
    1. Start
    2. Programs
    3. Accessories
    4. System Tools
    5. System Information

You will see a small screen and at the bottom of the screen you will see Total physical memory. This will show only that which the BIOS can recognize.
