The Intel dual core e5300 is definitely better. Even the lower clocked E5200 beats the 2.9 GHz Athlon 64 X2 5600+. However, at the same time, all these processors lose to their competitors in 3D pattern dealing with 3D modeling applications. The remaining two patterns working with HD video processing and editing as well as typical office suites reveal moderate, but not dramatic advantage demonstrated by AMD CPUs.

If we talk about performance then I think AMD is better here. Almost both processor are same, but AMD gives you 1000Mhz FSB over Intel which offer you 800Mhz. You just have a bit faster data processing here. But both processor lands in the same performance chat. There can be a minor 5 to 10% difference only. If you are looking for a budget performance cpu then try to checkout the new Intel's Core i series. Core i3 is the most basic one that offers you good video processing and better performance on low power. It also remain cooler on extreme usage.

Compare to AMD, Intel is better when it comes to performance. It is right that there is no huge difference but when it comes to stability then you will have to go for Intel. AMD just provide you a 3D support which is good for gaming. That's it. But when it comes to work then you need something more better. Intel Dual Core E5300 can give you 35% more better output compared to AMD. It is faster and stable. The power consumption of this cpu is less compare to AMD. This keep the cpu cooler at the time of usage. AMD has just more clock speed which is 2.9 and Intel gives 2.6. A tiny difference does not really help much.
