    Intel I7 v i5

I am a bit confused after reading various posts on various sites. I have some question in my mind which I am listing below.

    1) Is i5 is the crap version of the i7.
    2) Once i5 is released, Is Intel going to phase out the i7.
    3) Is i7 is better at overclocking than i5.
    4) Should I get an i7 extreme before they get passed out?

The i5 and i7, both are good processors but i5 has a different architecture than i7. There are 8 cores present in i7 from which 4 are real and 4 are virtual, since it uses hyoerthreading. The i5 uses the same properties as the quad core 775 but it has higher FSB.

The performance of i5 and i7 is depends on what you are doing? If we talk about gaming then 90% of games uses 1-2 cores. 1 core is used to focus on display function, background properties, internet connection etc. Therefore from 5 cores of i5 4 cores are enough and we don’t need to go for i7.

My computer also has i7 processor. Some people are saying that “if i5 came out with the same performance as i7 but cheaper in price then how will all i7 owners feel."

But reality is that different, That is never going to happen. I5 processor might perform very close to i7 but it cannot touch the slandered of i7. I7 would remain the king of all processors of Intel until something else came along.

I will go for i5, but I will not buy it unless they offer advantage for the price as compared to AMD.
And it would pissed the i7 owners. It will be like you are buying a something for $400000 and when you reach there next week you find the same thing selling there for $275000 on the same dealer. And that is the reason why I never buy “cutting edge”. I like to stay a step or two back. That is why the things I buy are tested and tried.
