sad ASUS M2A74 AM good for AMD Phenom II 3.0GHz X2 AM3 socket?

I currently own an ECSRS482M-M motherboard with ATI 450X chipset and have an Athlon 3500+ AM2 socket processor. I'm planning on upgrading to AMD Phenom soon, but want to get the motherboard first an then the processor, the motherboard should cost within Rs.4000 and have mini-ATX form factor.

it shud have 1 PATA and >2 SATA,
    and DDR2 1066MHz RAM
    at least 1 PCIe x16 slot(2is better)

please advice, my chassis is a mini tower but well ventilated(8fans).

Thanking you for your exellent advice before hand.

Why don't you try Asus M4 Motherboards. They supports Amd processor. There is a wide range of boards available in series and I believe that you will get what you are looking for. The M4A78T M4A78-E and E have their side of AMD 790GX chipset (with engine Radeon HD 3300 integrated) and a SB750 southbridge.

Okay, thank you Abhibhava, but will it fit my budget?

i think it wont support my current CPU, and the price is really high. i cant get a mobo and a phenom processor for dat price.

    thank you anyway..

does the asus m2a74-am support AM3 at only 1000MHz? will it affect my performance of Phenom II processor??

    anybody there?

Yes, I think due to chipset limitation the AM3/AM2+ CPU runs at HT1 (1000MHz). Due to AMD CPU limitation, DDR2 1066 is supported by AM2+/AM3 CPU only. Refer to www.asus.com for the memory QVL (Qualified Vendors List). When you install a total memory of 4GB or more, Windows® 32-bit operating system may only recognize less than 3GB. Hence, a total installed memory of less than 3GB is recommended if you are using a Windows 32-bit operating system.

Ya, but i want to know does this really hamper performance? intel's max FSB is 1333MHz. if i get 1000MHz is it really dat bad?

It is actually the speed that depends on the largest bottleneck, so the improvement is always less than linear. You will notice a difference in speed, especially if you have a computer with 1333 mhz fsb that has a solid state drive (or even 7200 rpm hard drive) when the 800 mhz fsb machine had 5400 rpm hard drive. Generally, other variables play a more important role in determining the performance of a computer than just the FSB speed, not the least of which is the clock speed of the CPU itself. So, for example, if you were hypothetically choosing between a 2.33 GHz CPU with a 1333 MHz FSB, or a 2.66 GHz CPU with an 1000 MHz FSB, then you should still choose the CPU with the higher 2.66 GHz clock speed.

The thing is i have to choose between the Phenom II or the athlon II processor.
Both have 3.0GHz but only the Phenom has 6MB cache compairing to 2MB of the Athlon II.

Hello there, first of all i would like to ask what you will be using ur pc for?
I just bought an AMD Phenom II X4 955 black edition, with my main intentions for gaming. The two mobo I shortlisted were Asrock m3a770de &
    ASUS m4a78td-v evo.
These both mobo support 1600 mhz ddr3 ram.
Both of them have dual pci-e 2.0 slots for further graphics upgradation.
The asrock is the cheaper on & will cost you near 4500-5500 rs.
I took Evo one & it cost me 6450 rs.
I strongly suggest you to stretch your budget to atleast 6000 if u want sumthin that wont die old in 2-3 years.
The most important thing is to make sure that your mobo supports the adequate cpu TDP.

    toad frog09
why stretch to 6000? i can get an ECS top of the line am3 mobo with all the latest features.

i've made my choice, i'll get the gigabyte MA74GM or the asus listed here. which will help me make transition from Athlon to Phenom II? the gigabyte 68m sp2 is quite cheap, but is it good?

and i wont stay without upgrades for more than 2yr.

i use my pc for general working, but mostly for playing games. u have seen my other post on 3500+ processor..

Respect sir, I'd done some good hunting past couple of months for suitable mobo.
An asus equivalent esc mobo should cost how much less? 1000? 1500? Max 2000 indian rupees?
But still will it match the superior quality asus provides? Not to forget its features.(core unlocking, turbo boosting etc)
But of course, my 'research' can be faulty, as i totally depend on internet. Lol.
Still I'd place my stakes over asus rather on elitegroup.
With due respect sir, can I have the name of the ECS mobo with dual pcie2.0 slots, 4 dimm slots, & other such features with cost less than or equal to 6500/-.
