How to Check a PCI Slot in motherboard

After installing the SCSI PCI card, there is a conflict with the sound card (or other input device and output). Can I change the IRQ or the resources defined in the PCI SCSI card in the card itself.?? Also I am newbie when the hardware parts come. Also please tell me how to check a PCI Slot in motherboard..?? Hoping that someone over there would help me soon.!!

PCI adapter cards have no control over the resources they use. Under the PCI specification, resources and switches are defined by the computer CMOS and the support of PnP and PnP operating systems (assuming that the operating system PnP support). Resources are allocated to the PCI slots and then pass the cards installed in those slots.

Most PCI cards do not have jumpers (jumper) to control resources. Even when the program is showing SCSI Select the IRQ assigned to the card, the program is just reporting the IRQ that the system has assigned to the card and this can not be changed under the program or on the card.

If possible, try to define a unique IRQ for the SCSI card. This is a function of the CMOS of the computer and is not adjustable on the card. If PnP functions are not working, then you must try to disable PnP in the motherboard (if your motherboard provides this option). Some computers allow the sharing of IRQ's. Make sure the device you are sharing IRQ with the SCSI card is capable of IRQ sharing. Adaptec recommends that if possible, be assigned a unique IRQ to the SCSI card.

The SCSI card must be installed in a PCI slot capable of domination Bus (Bus Mastering). Check the specifications of the motherboard or computer manufacturer if you plan to use PCI slots support Bus domination Some systems use the first PCI slot and the first two PCI slots for domination of the bus. You should also check that the PCI slots on the motherboard to conform to the PCI 2.1 standard. In some systems, simply move the card to another PCI slot is sufficient to cause the system to other resources assigned to the PCI SCSI card, and solving the problem of resources.

If there is an AGP slot on the motherboard, they can cause IRQ conflicts if you install the SCSI card slot next to it. It is possible to prevent or eliminate IRQ conflicts just moving the SCSI card to another slot farthest from the AGP slot. It has been observed in some systems, the order in which cards are installed can correct IRQ conflicts.

If the sound card stopped working after you install the SCSI adapter card, try installing both cards in reverse order :
    1. Remove the sound card and SCSI adapter card in the system.
    2. Turn on the computer without these cards in the system (this allows the system to reset the IRQ resources in the motherboard).
    3. After the system has fully booted, turn off the computer again.
    4. Add the SCSI card to the system (do not install the sound card yet)
    5. Reboot and let Windows operating system detects the card (make sure you are using the correct driver for your card)
    6. Since the correct driver finishes installing, turn off the computer again.
    7. Add the sound card to the system.
    8. Reboot and let Windows operating system detects the sound card.
    9. Check your system to ensure that this procedure has eliminated the problem.
