    question RAM upgrade

I plan to increase my RAM to 3 GB. I currently have 1 GB Kingston @800Mhz.

Which would be a better option of the below..?

    1. buy 2 chips of 1 GB @800 MHz, or
    2. buy a single chip of 2 GB @800 MHz

    thanks for any help

    Re: RAM upgrade

If your motherboard supports dual channel , then it is better because 2x1 GB doubles the transfer rate in dual channel mode. This means that your memory will be faster. An example: DDR1 400 Normal transmission rate = 3000 MB / sec Dual Channel DDR1 400 transfer rate = 6000MB/sek Corresponds to the DDR memory 800th It only works with exactly the same store and always in pairs ie 1x2 or 2x2. For example, 1x2 + a third would disable Dualchannel. So its better to have 2 chips of 1 GB @800 MHz !!
