sad Bios doesn't detect DVD Drive - Can't install OS

    Hello all,

I have just assembled my new pc and am facing a problem while installing the OS.
The Bios detects the HDD(as Master) but does not detect my DVD drive. Due to this i am unable to boot from the DVD drive.

The HDD and the DVDD are IDE. I am using a single IDE cable to connect them.
The mid port on the IDE cable is connected to the DVDD. And the end port to the HDD.

The DVDD powers up properly, I can eject the tray normally.

I suspect a jumper issue here.

The DVDD has three pins labelled as -

The jumper is on the MA pin.

    The following is the config-

    Mobo-Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3L
    PSU-Coolermaster Extreme Power 460W
    GPU-Zotac GTX260
    CPU-intel E7400
    Kingston 1 GB RAM 800Mhz

Kindly help me resolve this nagging issue.

I think that the problem is coming because you are tying to connect the CD/DVD drive jumper as MA. Try connecting to the drive jumper CS. Even then if you are facing some problem while detecting the CD-ROM, try to connect the other IDE data cable for the CD-ROM.

It is my understanding that 80 wire/40 pin (actually 78/39) ribbons/cables ALWAYS require the drive that will be master at the end of the cable (black plug) and the slave at the middle (grey plug).

If you are using an old style 40 wire-40 pin cable you'll have problems.

I am using the same 80-wire cable..and as mentioned the slave(CD) is at the middle plug and the master(HDD) at the end plug

Try that config with both jumpers on CS (cable select).

If it won't work that way, try HD M and DVD S.
