    Intel C2D E6600 Clock speeds

    Hello,

I clocked my CPU by altering the FSB to 340 to gain 3.07 GHz. In Windows 7 it all works amazingly, with clock speed of 2020MHz and 3070MHz idle and under load respectively. But when I boot Ubuntu it does show the correct clock speeds, idle 1.60GHz and 2.40GHz which is the exact clock speed. I am not sure if the CPU is runing at the requested speeds in Ubuntu to but now showing it or if it is working at original speeds... What could be the problem?.I have an Intel C2D E6600 on an Asus P5QL Pro motherboard.

    advance thanks..!

Intel C2D E6600 Clock speeds. The P4's netburst technology was highly up to mark. The only way to get any performance out of it was to run it at high clock speeds. AMD's technology was good enough, that's why an A64 working at a less clock speed could beat higher clocked P4's.Intel went back to the drawing board & came up with the Core technology which is loosely based on the P3 design. It is much more efficient & get's more work done at lower clock speeds.

I hardly think Ubuntu just reads the processor's ID and does not looking for clock frequency.I have a Core2Quad Q6600 overclocked to 3.0G and Ubuntu still reads it as 2.4G. The appearance is there as I did super PI at 2.4 and 3.0 and it was much faster at 3.0.Windows XP - Excellent computer virus detector.Windows Vista - Most bloat for the money.

When your ram is running at 400MHz x 2 and you have DDR2 800, its not being stained at all its working at stock speeds. In case of your FSB-Dram which tells you ram is quicker than the CPU FSB. This can be a tremendous thing as your processor has much memory bandwidth. When I get my ram fan to cool my dimms I'll have my ram at 1200MHz 5-5-5-15 @2.2v which brings me a 2:3 FSB-Dram ratio.
