    Core i7 920, 4.0GHz on air

    Hiya Freaks,

I'm been thinking of how i would able to overclock my i7 920 without going to water cooling. Would it be possible to get a nice solid 4.0GHz overclock on air with an ASUS P6T (non deluxe) and 3GB corsair DDR3-1333 ram? What heat sinkyou guys suggest. If 4.0GHz isn't possible on air what is the highest I would be able to get?please get me back fellas..

    Cheers..!!

Aren't the i7's multiplier locked? that means you need to adjust the on board reference clock speed. You should be able to get somewhere between 3.5 and 3.8 without too much hardship, maybe more if you have a golden chip. Have fun with your new thing

It would vary with particular sample. The RAM will also hold you back if you're not able to clock it past 667 MHz, though many DDR3-1333 has some headroom if you increase the voltage to 1.65Vdimm.Generally heat sink I'm seeing for people reaching 4.1-4.2 GHz air is the Thermal right Ultra-120 Extreme. It's also the most capable 1366-compatible heat sink I know of, once installed correctly.Normal stable peaks for the 920 range from 3.8 to 4.2 GHz. There are many settings involved, and it's very easy to mess up and think your CPU won't go past 3.3 or 3.5, so people have written overclocking guides for the 920.But the terminology used for BIOS settings differs with various board vendors
