    Issues with Patriot PDC24G6400LLK 4gb(2x2gb)

    Hello friends,

On my ASUS P5B Deluxe WiFi computer (Patriot Kit PDC22G6400LLK).I've been running 2GB of memory The CPU is an E6600 and nothing is overclocked. The memory is run at 4-4-4-12, 2.1v.I required more memory for a large VM and also to test Windows 7 64-bit (RC1). I bought 4GB to add to the computer (PDC24G6400LLK). I installed it and it wouldn't pass MEMTEST (ver. 2.11) at the speed/voltage previously used. The board is based on the Intel P965/JMicron chipset. In researching, I found that the PDF for the 4GB kit has an small note that this kit won't work on i965 chipset boards. I didn't notice this before I bought the memory. I was trying to get memory in the same "family" to avoid any conflicts. Also, I've had very good success with Patriot memory.

But information on memory is not kept up to date. Also, there have been numerous BIOS updates for the P5B to support newer processors and certain memory configurations. So should this 4GB kit work properly in the P5B Deluxe at 4-4-4-12?.I did not up the voltage because I've seen two different voltage settings for the 2GB kit that's installed. I have not tried running the 4GB kit by itself. All the tests were run with the entire 6GB (the configuration I wanted). If I need to, I can run a test with just the 4GB installed.

    Thanks for any help,

I should tell first you may attempt for increase in memory voltage to 2.15 or 2.25 instead of the NB or CPU voltage. Is there a reason for this?.The only voltage value shown in the BIOS is "VCore" and I totally have no clue which section that voltage refers to (it shows 1.280-1.288v). The NB VCore has settings for 1.25, 1.45, 1.55 and 1.65v. The CPU VCore has settings from 1.5250-1.7000v in 0.0125v increments.A non-intrusive program to run from a CD/Flashdrive or in Windows to say the current voltage settings? I think the ASUS utility shows this information, but I don't have it installed and I don't know how accurate it is.

Using Default Voltages Or Auto Voltages Seldom Work On Modern PC's are Stable. Now Dual Or triple Channel Config. Memory does not combine very well if they are various version, batch, voltage, timings....etc, even if they are from the same vendor. The memory you already had is probably different in some way from the memory you just received. It is always better to purchase memory in pairs, tri-kits, or quad kits, that are packaged together, this way the manufacturer will guarantee them to work and more than likely they have already been tested for functionality in the quantity packaged.confirm you have the correct voltage and timings set in the bios for the memory, I Do Not Recommend Increasing The Memory Voltage Above The Manufacturers Specs Without Additional Cooling. (look on each stick for voltage, timings, revision and or batch number). They all required to match closely. If they do not you might be able to get the memory to run by slowing down the memory frequency, timings and adding some extra nothbridge voltage.
