Will E8400 work under Vista 64 bit

I wanted to upgrade my system for better performance. So I wanted to get a new processor for my computer. I came across Intel's E8400 processor. But I am in doubt whether it will work on my Windows Vista 64 bit computer. I mean will I get a better performance. Can you suggest me if Intel's E8400 processor is best for Windows Vista 64 bit computer?
