    RAM Upgradation Problem

    Hi,
I have purchased a DDR 400 1GB RAM (Dynet) for upgarading my memory.
I have already a DDR 400 512 MB RAM (Dynet).

My problem is that my PC is not booting with the new 1GB RAM. Once it booted with the existing 512MB ram but restarted. So I feel this 1GB RAM is not compatible. Please help me regarding this. The model which I Purchased is not compatible?which model shall I buy/replace?

My system is having PentiumD with 2.7 GHZ and with intel chipset 865G.

    Regards,
    Rakesh

    Re: RAM Upgardation Problem

Check by placing individual ram 1gb and then 512mb if for individual case both ram works fine then the problem is compatibility between both ram and if new one is not working individual only then the problem is due to new one so replace it.

The model you have buy (DDR 400 1GB RAM (Dynet)) is fully compatible with you system as per your previous RAM. Have you tried in both slots? Dynet is low quality RAM, but it works fine, i have used it for many months. MAy be the new RAM is faulty, you can replace it with same mode. Or buy of some other brand like Kingston etc.
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (3.6GHz, 1.44v) with TR Ultra 120E,
    Gigabyte GA-EX38-DQ6 v1.1, 4GB G.Skill PI 1066 5-5-5-15 2.1v ,
    Powercolor ATI HD4870X2 2GB, 4x SATA2 500GB Samsung HDD RAID 10,
    Creative X-Fi, Dell 2408WFP A01 24" LCD,
    Acer P221w 22" LCD,
    Corsair HX-1000 Watt PSU,
    Vista 64-bit.

Hey I must say your new chip must be faulty (To check your new chip just use it on your friends PC supporting the chip & see if it works?)
Don't forget to test your current chip too.
uninstalling the new chip first and make sure that everything boots ok. If ok, make certain you have the correct type of chip, and then reinstall. Make sure both sides clip-lock into place (some types take a lot of force). Then reboot.
If it works ok without the new chip but not with the new chip, that is probably the culprit. Hopefully you purchased from a reputable firm and can exchange the product.

Your intel chipset 865G supports 4GB dual channel DDR RAM that means DDR400 DIMM ram will work for your motherboard.

I have tried all the option putting it in the both slots with and with out the existing 512 RAM. So according to you peoples fast and valuable advice, I conclude the RAM which I got is faulty one! I am going to replace it today.
Please check the specification below for new and old.
    Thanks a lot to all.

    The spec for OLD: DDR400(3)512Mx8
    New Spec 1GB RAM: DDR400(3)1GBx16

    Re: RAM Upgradation Problem

Try the sticks one at a time to determine whether it is the ram or not, and run a ram test on each chip individually. You need to install modules one at a time, and you can mix different densities of modules in your computer. But if your computer supports dual-channel memory configurations, you should install in identical pairs (preferably in kits) for optimal performance.
