High temperature on i7 920 with a stock cooler

    Hi,

I have i7 920 with a stock cooler and Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P. Yesterday i have tested my i7 920 with prime 95 and i see higher temperatures on all the 4 core. i am getting 85 degrees temp on all cores , without load temperatures goes down to 46 degrees. The clocks are just standard. I have no case fans are on now that can ruin Airflow.

    is this normal ?

Yeah temperature are not right with stock cooler, 60c load temps are quite good using the stock cooler. The i7 chips requires a good aftermarket. it seems to me very high temps for a standard i7 920 which is not overclocked and the room temp is not higher than 21 degrees.

A processor with a Thermal Design Power of 135 watts gives more heat than a processor with a Thermal Design Power of 65/90 Watt. That's the TDP in the Core 2's frequency, I thought. Have you already tried the case to fans ?

For your information Intel gives max of about 68 degrees but if you are getting more than 68, you really need to cool your pc. Your case is fine, so little strange that it is not cooler than. go for an aftermarket cooler, it is much better than the boxed in general and more efficient and quieter.
