Re: connecting SATA Hard drive to motherboard having IDE port

Just buy a SATA controller for your motherboard.

    • IDE to SATA Converter - Converts SATA Hard Drive to IDE
      • Serial ATA 1.0 compliant
      • Converts any SATA hard drive into IDE hard drive
      • Support ATA 33/66/100/133
      • 48 bits LBA. Support large hard drives of 137 GB or larger with one partition
      • Mini Board size (75mm x 26mm). Mounts directly to the back of SATA hard drive
      • Bootable
      • Plug and Play, no drivers required
      • Compatible with any OS (Windows, DOS, Mac, Linux, UNIX) that supports IDE storage devices
      • Supports Spread Spectrum in receiver
      • Compliant with ATA specifications
      • The most popular IDE to SATA converter we carry, converts any SATA hard drive into an IDE hard drive. Simply connect the IDE to SATA converter to the back of the SATA hard drive, connect your IDE controller's ribbon cable and power up.

    OR

Buy a sata pci card for your computer.

    • Description:
      • The next generation of harddrive connectivity is here. Raising the bar for transfer speeds (upto 150MB/s) is only one of Serial ATAs benefits. SATA offers lower system resource utilisation, which benefits all areas of the computer.

    • Technical Details:
      • Data transfer rate : Up to 150 MBps
      • Device type : SATA PCI Controller Card
      • Interface : 32 BIT, 33/66Mhz fully compliant PCI host interface
      • System requirements : Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows NT4, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Linux
      • Ports qty : 1 internal , 1 external (SATA), 1 IDE

Re: connecting SATA Hard drive to motherboard having IDE port

I have a problem with the adapter which i got in this one(not the PCI one).

I connected everything i.e that module onto the mobo in place of my DVD ROM and connected the power cable.NOTE that the power cable is connected to the module rather than the HD itself, but my HD does not power on.? will i have to get a coverter that connects the HD directly to the power cable?

You have to connect power to the HD. It looks like the white molex connector connects to a lead from the power supply, then to the HD.
