    pc2 5300 vs pc2 5400 , Whats the Difference ?

Hello , Everybody I have a Lenovo laptop that is currently using 256 MB PC2 5300 DDR2 RAM and i also want to add another ram to my current laptop , So i Was just thinking That Can I use 256 mb PC2 5400 DDR2 RAM on it? what's the difference between pc2 5300 and pc2 5400? I read online that 5400 memory meets a certain hardware spec, but is one better than the other?
    Thanks in advance

Generally PC5300 and PC5400 are exactly the same. The number is derrived from multiplying the clockspeed times 8, representing its maximum theoretical bandwidth:

    667MHz × 8 = 5336 MB/s

Some manufacturers round this number up to 5400, others round it down to 5300. Nothing more than a marketing decision.

In some cases, when one manufacturer uses both terms, they use PC5300 for Value-memory and PC5400 for high-end products even though they have the same clockspeed.
And in even fewer cases, PC5400 represents memory clocked at 675MHz, which has a theoretical max bandwidth of exactly 5400MB/s.

The way that those numbers are calcualted is by multiplying the base speed (667 in this case) by 8.

What you get is 5336. So some manufacturers round down to 5300, and some round up to 5400. But as cx said, they are the same.

The naming convention works as follows: PC 5300 runs at a supposed 5300mbits and PC 5400 runs at 5400mbits, as they are both ddr2 667 you should be fine running them together as they run at the same bus speed. Use something like crucial system scanner
