    E8500 on DDR2 Performance?

    hi,
    I have Intel P4 3.0ghz w/ ht
    Asus P4P800SE mobo
    Cooler Master CPU Cooler
    Kingston 512MBx2 (PC3200)
    ATi Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb
    Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2,i am going to upgrade my computer so my question is Will E8500 on support DDR2 at 800Mhz?If so, how much of a performance gain would I get if I used DDR2 800 memory, and of course a DDR2 compatible motherboard.Any help will be extremely appreciated.

    The cheaper option is the way to go (if you must upgrade now).You wont notice a significant enough difference from the e6600 to a e8xxx to justify the cost. Im not sure on the RE3's performance, but check it against the black editions as they are one of the quickest right now and make sure you read into RAID a bit more. Please also dont consider RAID as backup this is NEVER the case.

    Re: E8500 on DDR2 Performance?

    E8500 is great for games.

    and even ddr2 800 memory can do a good job.

    FSB= 1333MHz

    bus speed=1333MHz/4=333MHz

    that means ddr2 800 (400MHz) is faster than your CPU

    cpu:memory ratio 1:1

    you should overclock your CPU to 400MHz (400MHzx9.5=3.8GHz).

    E8500 is a little faster and has the extra .5 multiplier, they overclock to similar levels, so doesn't matter too much which one you get IMO.ie: 400 (ddr2 800mhz) x 9 = 3.6ghz VS 400 x 9.5 = 3.8ghz
