    Pentium D 915 or AMD Athlon X2 7750

    hi,
    I have a pentium d 2 * 2.8 GHz, 915 built. is a amd athlon x2 7750 + with 2 * 2.7 GHz faster?Any recommendations and suggestions are appreciated.

    The athlon should be faster.

    hi,
this processor is compatibly give better performance. This is a speedy processor and work efficient while in development processes. Many applications work fine in these applications.
It released in two models, the X7900 and the X7800. These will feature an 800 MHz FSB. The X7800 will be clocked at 2.6 G Hz and will cost around $795. The X7900 will be clocked at 2.8 G Hz, but its cost is unknown, but expect it to be more than 1000 dollars per CPU in packs of 1000.
The Core 2 processor does not require the use of DDR2. While the Intel 975X and P965 chip sets require this memory, some motherboards and chip sets support both the Core 2 and DDR memory. When using DDR memory, performance may be reduced because of the lower available memory bandwidth.

Clock-per-clock performances of Kuma core are equal to Conroe 2m/4m cores. In some situations Conroe is maybe slightly efficient but in operations that demand massive memory bandwidth and lot of multitasking K10 X2 (Kuma) is good rival for Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs. Overclocking possibilities are surprisingly good and we could say that AMD with Kuma core is dangerously close to overclocking possibilities of Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs made in 65nm manufacturing process.

We tested Athlon X2 7750 on DFI LanParty DK 790FXB M2RS motherboard and with better air cooled solution we managed to extract respectable and stable 3.4GHz for cores and 2.4GHz for northbridge. In most of benchmark applications X2 7750 was stable even on 3.5GHz. Unfortunately frequencies of 3.6GHz and higher can be achieved but not with conventional cooling solutions. As reference in results we used pricier Phenom X4 9950 Black Edition.
