"Callisto is the codename under which indicated a new generation of dual-core Athlon processors, which are derived from the solutions Phenom II"
According to information, AMD would prepare an answer to Intel processors in the segment of the dual core with a solution so far is not yet included in the roadmap and identified by the code name of Callisto.
Talking about a cpu based on the same processor architecture II Phenom X4 and X3 recently show, platforms compatible with socket AM3 and AM2 sockets but with the idea of two processor cores. We recall that with the code name of Deneb are identified the cpu Phenom X4 II, while we refer to solutions Phenom X3 II.
Callisto processors integrate two cores each with L2 cache of 512 Kbytes, up a unified L3 cache by as many as 6 Mbytes of up, like what is implemented in some versions of II processor Phenom X4 and Phenom II in the X3. It is not clear at present if the L3 cache may be proposed even in smaller quantities, such as 4 Mbytes of cpu Phenom X4 II 8x0.
A processor would have to ensure, in conjunction with clock frequencies sufficiently high, a good level of performance when placed in comparison with the proposed Core 2 Duo from Intel. Currently AMD is proposing in this segment several versions of Athlon X2 processor with maximum clock frequency of up to 3.1 GHz, in addition to the Athlon X2 processor 7750 Black Edition based on the architecture of the Phenom cpu first series with L2 cache and 2 Mbytes clock of 2.7 GHz
The processor family Callisto use the same day to 45 nanometers of cpu Phenom X4 and X3 II, through the decommissioning of two of the integrated core. This kind of approach will allow one hand to take advantage of processors that have to 2 cores is not functioning, but AMD will not be a choice for the most economically advantageous tender in terms of production, using a dual core die for these specific cpu.
