If you mean how to check the Memory "size", then press the Window key + Pause/Break key. The first window will show the amount of RAM memory. To find your video ram size, right click on the desktop, choose Settings. click on advanced and then click on Adapter. If you mean to check the operation of RAM and video memory. That will take some diagnostic software and some experience to interpret the results.

Go to the following link, http://www.crucial.com they can do an on line check which will determine which ram your motherboard supports. They will recommend the optimum amount. You can order on line and although they are not the cheapest it is worth paying for good ram. They guarantee compatibility with your motherboard and give an excellent warranty. They also give fitting instructions. I have used them many times and always been satisfied. Hope this helps.

You can also go to Start -> Run and type in dxdiag and hit enter. this will give you a lot more info then just the memory, info on everything you will need to identify laptop components, video cards, memory, page files, networking devices, sound cards (and can test them for operability) and a whole lot more.

You can also see whether or not its DDR or SD by actually looking at a strip of the ram. DDR only has one gap in the flat part that sets in the motherboard, SD has two gaps.
