AMD Athlon Neo to fill the gap left by the Atom
AMD announced today at CES 2009 the availability of its platform for laptops ultra-fine, until now known under the code name Yukon. AMD's response to Intel Atom target a market, located between the ultra-portable economic Atom marketed in about 400 euros (netBook) and ultra-portable in traditional Centrino 2 sold more than 1 000.
AMD responds to an emerging trend that sees the creation of 12-inch laptops under Atom performance but limited to relatively high prices (like the Dell Inspiron Mini 12), sometimes those of traditional laptops entry. This new platform is expected to complete the vacuum that forced consumers to "make a compromise by choosing either full performance at a high price, the limited experience of a mini-portable low-cost," according Chris Cloran, vice president of the Mobile AMD.
The platform combines an AMD Athlon Neo (engraved in 65 nanometers), 690T AMD chipset and integrated graphics chip ATI Radeon X1250 graphics chip or a dedicated ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3410. It is therefore designed to integrate affordable machines with screens from 11 to 13 inches.
