Would this work?

I need to build a new PC at home. I havent done this for a while and I am quite out of touch with the new tech. (last PC I built was a P3, none of the newfangled multicore nonsense )

So here is the requirement:
A PC that will handle most, if not all games to come out within the next 3 years.
I also need to do some development on VS 2009 and SQL 2008.

So this is the plan:

AOC 416Va 24" monitor, 1920x1200 DV
2GB DDR2-533 PC2-4200 SDRAM (x2)
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0GHz 12Mb 45nm
Asustek Maximus Formula, Intel X38 DDR2 ATX
GeForce 9800 GX2, 1GB PCI-Express
Samsung 320GB Serial ATA HDD
Midi Tower Case with 400 to 499 Watt PSU, ATX
LiteOn DH-20A4P DVD±RW Drive IDE
Genius C210 desktop

I now defer to the hardware geniuses (genii?). Would that all work together? Anything that could be done better/cheaper/more synergistic etc?

As you should be able to see, I have a bit of budget, but I'm not Warren Buffet.

Any input appreciated.

Why you doubt about the configuration to work? That seems to be pretty good rig for a new desktop. That will work for all recent games, cant say about future games though.

What is VS 2009! Is it Visual Studio? The latest version I had known is VS 2008. When did VS 2009 arrive.

The reason I am worried, is it's been a while since I plugged these things in. I don't want to end up with an x pin CPU on a y pin motherboard, or a MB with an onboard screencard, etc.

Obviously there are no glaring issues that jump out at you, so I think I'll go ahead with the order.

Well i just had a look at your thread & i think our techies will definitely guide you in the compatibility sort of problems. But till then i would say start searching for the motherboard specifications you have mentioned & step by step all the other components right from the processor & you will be quite aware of what you are building for yourself!
Since am not as good as the people in hardware section!

Thats true. Whether the CPU pins or any other hardware pins are compatible with motherboard or not has to be checked and verified on place itself. You can make it sure from the vendor itself before buying any things. So far the rig looks good to me and and you can go ahead with the order.
