    1 TB HDD query

    Hi,
I want to buy 1 TB Hard Disk for my Computer.
Now, is there any capacity constraints on your motherboard, Bios etc to support a Hard Disk? & How to use a SATA HDD?

    Hi,
First tel me what motherbord you have?
It must support SATA HDDs Since 99% 1TB HDD comes with SATA or SATA2
If not you will need to upgrade to Sata & a controller card.

Thanks My motherboard supports IDE no SATA support.
What can i do? I want 1TB HDD. IS it a good idea to have 2 500mb HDDs combined using RAID? Dont know what RAID is but is it possible?

    OK
As you said your Mobo does not support SATA you wont get the benifits of SATA HDD like speed of data transfer on your IDE using Controller card.
RAID — which stands for Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (as named by the inventor), or alternatively Redundant Array of Independent Disks (a name which later developed within the computing industry) — is a technology that employs the simultaneous use of two or more hard disk drives to achieve greater levels of performance, reliability, and/or larger data volume sizes.

Do you really need 1TB HDD? I yes then i think you just need to upgrade your motherboard.

    A 1TB drive would be a better option than a RAID 0 of 2 500GB drives.
    SATA has replaced IDE.

Raid 0 is a striped array where data is written across 2 disks lose 1 disk & you lose data completely. It is more finicky then a simple large drive.
