It is also possible to do with pre-xp OSs but a little more difficult.Unlike earlier versions of Windows that only allowed a plain colour background behind the labels under the icons on your desktop, Windows XP allows you to make the background transparent so that the text appears as if it is directly over whatever background image you are using for your page. If the labels appear to have a plain colour background on XP and you want a transparent background then open the Control Panel and go into the Performance and Maintenance section. From there select System and then go to the Advanced tab. Go to the Performance section and press the Settings button. The "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" option needs to be selected.
If you still have a plain colour background with this option selected then right click on the desktop, select Arrange icons by and make sure that "Lock web items on dersktop" is NOT selected.
Google for transparent icon.
Thanks, i've just tried all of that and it hasnt changed anything. I've messed around with disply properties to try to change but can't...any other suggestions? It will really annoy me if i cant get it back to how it was!! PS, im using XP Home.
Did you click 'Apply' and 'OK' in the required places?
Did you try the last tip above?
Did you re-boot after making the changes?
Did you Google 'transparent icons', that's where I found the above suggestions.
mayb its too late to make a reply for this.....
btw, u must have changed your wallpaper, and most probably PNG format's wallpaper. (i guess) try to change your wallpaper to JPG o GIF by simply using windows built-in paint. open the wallpaper u prefered using paint, and then 'save it as', choose .jpg or .gif format. that might works
