Does DirectX 12 will need a new graphic card

Windows 10 Technical Preview is out and it is not so good as it was expected. It was planned that Microsoft is also going to upgrade DirectX to the 12th edition. I want to know that does this new version will need a new graphic card. Or it will still work on the older series. My friend is having a Quad Core based pc where he is using a HIS DDR2 card. And it works well for all games. But for using DirectX 12 on that, is worth or not. Because only after that we can decide whether to go for this new OS or stick with the older one.

With Windows 10 there will be a new kind of user experience in video games. And this I think needs upgrades. Many are saying that still old Graphic cards will work on Direct12 but there are chances that you wont be able to use its maximum potential. Windows 10 is going to get a compulsory update for DireCTX12. The deployment of of new API promises increased in performance through more direct communication with the hardware. And here the API is already released for developers. There is no doubt that after a few months, it is going to become a game standard.

DirectX 12 will not be accessible for older Windows version. As the API will be an exclusive feature for Windows 10. This simply means if you are using Windows 7 or Windows 8 then there are minimum chances that you get DirectX 12 update on your pc. You have to upgrade your system to Windows 10. Now comes the question of compatible graphics card. Here Microsoft cleared this point. That if you want to take full advantage of DirectX 12 then you have to use the latest graphics card.

This is yet not a accurate information. As far as I know that around 50% of graphic cards in the market, the old one will support DirectX 12. For those who are using Nvidia graphic card have to see the gpu generation. Right-now Kepler, Fermi and Maxwell supports DirectX 12. It is true that DirectX 12 reserved for Windows 10 only. And Microsoft is not focus on provided this update on Windows 8.1 also. This one is the latest Windows OS. This would add a kind of compulsion for people to update there pc to the latest operating system. Or stick with old DirectX version.

There are technical answer for that. It is right that DirectX 12 will be reserved for Windows 10 only. And there is no way that Microsoft is going to focus on the older series. The reason behind is due to the new library which is associated with an graphics driver model WDDM. It is a part the Windows kernel. And it is already updated to a new version which is Windows 10. New version simply means more stability and good performance. And there are chances that if you use this on a old graphic card then it might work slow.

Gamers cannot do anything here. If you are going to buy a new system then just have a look on the graphic card specification. Verify first whether it is going to work with DirectX 12 or not. If not then you are already putting your entire investment on risk. There will be a lot of games coming out in the coming months and most of them will be DirectX 12 compatible. To get the best from gaming you have to go ahead with a new hardware. Soon there will be a list provided for gpu that supports this new DirectX version.
