very low performance with Radeon R9 280X

I have recently purchased a new Radeon R9 280X which is a second hand graphics card. After using it for a while and playing some games in 1440p monitor and at high settings I was getting only 20-30fps in game which seems to be very low in performance. Also the FPS of the game keeps on dropping at the same time. I used Benchmark tool and found only 50FPS and a score of 1250 only. So do you think that this card is not suitable and should be returned immediately. Please answers.

There are many games that are based on CPU, so if you dont have a good processor then you are tend to get such low fps. Can you tell us what is your whole computer specifications and also what CPU do you use? You could also try to smoothen the game by playing it on low resolution or low settings because there are some games that are not very well optimized for high end settings and eventually require some patch or updates to solve the problem.

I remember having this same problem with my R9 290X graphics card with the CCC 14.1 beta drivers. So, i installed the old stable driver of 13.12 which worked fine for me. You will need to clean install the drivers for your graphics card and remove all other drivers from your computer. I have seen many users complaining that R9 290X doesnt like the 14.1 driver of AMD, so you could try this workaround.

Re: very low performance with Radeon R9 280X

As you have already told that the Radeon R9 280X graphics card that you have bought is used one so it might be possible that the card might be at fault. Also check if there is any power saving feature is not turned on in the bios which might be limiting the PCIe x16 slot to x1. If this is the case then go into your BIOS settings and disable it accordingly. Even after doing all this, the card isnt working fine then surely it seems to be a video card problem.
