Advantage of a pc monitor over hdtv

I am trying to help my friend to configure his own home theater system. He is planing to hook a widescreen Tv. But we are also getting a nice 27inch gaming monitor that has a integrated speaker. I want to know what are the good points of having a monitor than a TV. In TV we are going to get a good resolution and we can also play games on that. I am not looking for a very big size. Between 27 to 32inch. So going for a monitor is good or HDTV.

There is a big difference between both. Monitors give you more resolution and better pixel quantity. Compared to that HDTV are bit outdated if we compare them. They give you good option to sit back and enjoy movies. But if you want something for gaming then stick wit the monitor. Because your eyes will start paining when you play games on a TV. It is better to go with a good hd monitor with hdmi support.

I am having a very basic setup at home. I am using a monitor. I had connected that to the pc which is placed just at the bottom. The monitor has a HDMI port due to which I cam able to connected to the set top box and on the pc. But I am using a separate audio system for cable tv. Here going for a monitor is the best option and also you have to use a separate speaker which will help you more. Do not rely on the monitor speakers they are not so good.
